In the mid-1960s, Roger Waters was an architecture student at London’s Regent Street Polytechnic, until he and fellow students Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright formed a rock band. By 1966, the group settled on the name Pink Floyd, and in August, 1967, the band released their debut album, a psychedelic rock collection called The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, which was largely written by Barrett.
